Juventus Slips Out Of Series A Champion’s League
Juventus has slipped out of Serie A’s Champions League qualification spots on Wednesday following a 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Parma.
The match was one of four fixtures rescheduled from Monday due to the death of Pope Francis.
Mateo Pellegrino’s powerful header just before half-time secured a crucial victory for Parma, who are battling to remain in the top flight.
The result dealt a blow to Juventus’ hopes of returning to Europe’s premier competition, marking their first loss under new head coach Igor Tudor.
Juventus now sit fifth in the standings, one point behind Bologna, who moved into the top four with a win over Inter Milan on Sunday.
Adding to Juvetus’s concerns, striker Dusan Vlahovic was substituted at halftime with a reported thigh injury and is expected to miss Sunday’s match against Monza.
Parma’s win, ending a run of six consecutive draws—lifted them six points clear of the relegation zone. It was their first victory in two months.
Lazio capitalized on Juventus’ slip, drawing level with them on 59 points following a 2-0 win at Genoa.
The match saw both sides reduced to 10 men. Genoa’s Sebastian Otoa was sent off just 21 minutes into his Serie A debut, and Lazio quickly took control with a volley from Valentin
Castellanos. Boulaye Dia sealed the victory in the second half after a well-placed pass from Nicolo Rovella.
Reda Belahyane was later dismissed for Lazio, but the visitors held firm to secure the win.
Fiorentina also kept their European hopes alive with a 2-1 comeback win at Cagliari.
The result keeps them in eighth place, but within four points of fourth-placed Bologna. Juventus, Lazio, and Roma remain in close pursuit as the race for Champions League qualification intensifies.
