Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has congratulated Liverpool on securing the 2024/25 Premier League title while describing his side’s failure to win the championship as “very painful.”

Liverpool clinched the title on Sunday with a dominant 5–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, moving out of reach of second-placed Arsenal with four matches remaining.

The triumph marks another frustrating season for Arsenal, who have now come up short in three consecutive title races.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Arteta acknowledged Liverpool’s consistency and depth, describing them as deserving champions.

While praising Liverpool, Arteta admitted to the disappointment within the Arsenal camp.

Arsenal, who last won the Premier League in 2004 under Arsène Wenger, have once again been hindered by injuries to key players.

Six first-team regulars are currently sidelined, including Gabriel Magalhães, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Jorginho, and Riccardo Calafiori. Thomas Partey was also unavailable due to suspension during their 1–0 Champions League semi-final first-leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Despite the setback, Arteta emphasised the importance of finishing the season strongly. Arsenal currently sits five points ahead of third-placed Newcastle with four games remaining.

With the top five Premier League teams qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League, the Gunners are focused on securing second place.
