Area Council Elections: INEC To Provide Adequate Delimitation Details To Security Agencies
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will provide adequate delimitation details to the security agencies to guide its operational deployment during Anambra State Governorship election later this year and FCT Area Council Elections next year.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu said in Abuja during a meeting with Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, that the delimitation details such as locations of the polling units, Registration Area Centers, Wards would help the security agencies to provide conducive environment for everyone on election days.
He said the Commission would also provide information on difficult terrains and preliminary assessment of the security situations before the two elections.
Professor Yakubu also urged the security agencies to assist the Commission in combating vote buying on election days.
In a remark, the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu represented by the director Internal Security, Alhaji Hassan Yahaya said that they would improve on the lessons learnt during EDO and Ondo governorship elections last year.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun represented by the Commissioner of Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, Abayomi Sogunle said that the Police would collaborate with other sister agencies to ensure that properties and lives of the electorate, electoral officers, and other stakeholders are well secured on election days.
